This all natural, organic and vegan bath was made with the intentions to help eczema sufferers but this bath is luxurious and relaxing and nourishing... This bath is meant for all ages - Newborn, Infant, Kid, Child, Teen, Adolescent, Adult and Elderly - and all reasons - Eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, sensitive skin, dry air, winter months, sunburn, windburn, atopic dermatitis, allergies, poison ivy or poison oak, wounds, or just as a relaxing, moisturizing bath.

I used to buy those expensive official packets of colloidal oatmeal baths for my babies. Turns out I can make something for their eczema that works much better and has other beneficial qualities as well. Oatmeal and Jojoba oil is a great moisturizer for sensitive skin. The baking soda and Epsom salt nourish, clean and treat the skin. The essential oils have wonderful anti-inflammatory properties and are amazing at soothing the skin.

While there is no known cure, people who have eczema may experience periods of remission when the skin is clear. A return of symptoms – or flare-ups – can be induced by environmental triggers. These include:
Chemical irritants found in soaps, detergents, shampoos, disinfectants, and household cleansers
Allergens from pet dander, pollens, molds, and dandruff
Micro-organisms like viruses, bacteria, and fungi
Swings in temperature from hot weather, sweating during physical activity, and high and low humidity
Food allergies from eating dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, nuts, and seeds
Clothing made of wool or synthetic fibers

Colloidal Oatmeal ~ Oatmeal’s chemical structure leads to many benefits, when it comes to the use on skin here are 4 benefits. Oatmeal holds water and protects the skin because it is packed full of starches and beta-glucans, has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity through its many types of phenols, cleanses due to its saponins, and finally oatmeal softens the skin because it has lots of cellulose and fibre. With all these useful properties colloidal oatmeal has been used to treat many conditions including eczema, chicken pox, insect bites and skin irritations.

Baking Soda ~ For those who can tolerate baking soda on the skin, the benefits of this treatment are said to include a reduction in inflammation, gentle but deep cleansing to help clear bacteria, is anti-fungal, detoxification of the skin and a natural antiseptic, balances pH. Not to mention it is said to provide some very soothing benefits to the irritated, eczema ravaged skin. Similar to salts, baking soda has a very gentle cleansing and antiseptic quality which is great for cleaning nasty bacteria from irritated eczema or dermatitis. Said to help reduce inflammation and rashes and even to detoxify and strengthen the skin.

Epsom Salts ~ Epsom salts can work wonders for distressed skin. By providing easily absorbable magnesium sulfate directly into the skin, these salts can provide local and systemic anti-inflammatory action. Swelling and pain are soothed and an Epsom salt soak can calm itchiness. Magnesium plays a critical role in over 325 enzymes in your body. By soaking in Epsom salts, it can help to improve muscle and nerve function, reduce inflammation and improve blood flow and oxygenation in your body. Sulfates are needed to build healthy joints, skin and nervous tissue. Epsom salts help replenish the body’s magnesium levels and sulfates, which also helps to flush toxins from the body and build key protein molecules in the brain and joints. Sulfate molecules are so useful because they are negatively charged and able to attract (and extract) heavy metals from the body, which can irritate skin and also be a cause for eczema. Epsom salts also act as an alkalizing agent, which means they can balance your body’s pH and draw toxins and foreign substances from the body. Because magnesium sulfate is hydroscopic, i.e. draws water to itself, it often acts as an antimicrobial and prevents the overgrowth of bacterial and fungal elements directly on the surface of the skin. Epsom salts can speed up skin barrier recovery. Often in eczema, the top layer of the skin becomes porous after damage done by toxins and/or microbes. This damage changes the pH and microbial flora of the skin, which means that more toxins and microbes can enter the lower layers where they cause more irritation, inflammation and hypersensitive reactions. Lastly, Epsom salt is just a naturally effective cleanser and exfoliate for the skin. While you soak, the salt gently lifts the dry, damaged surface skin to reveal new skin underneath. Eczema sufferers often have compromised skin barrier function, but Epsom salts can refresh and strengthen this skin barrier, allowing the microbial flora on the skin’s surface to flourish.

Sunflower Oil ~ is high is Vitamins A, C & E also in Omega 6. Omega 6 helps decrease inflammation and boost cell regeneration. Sunflower oil is extremely high in vitamin E – an antioxidant that helps protect skin cells from harmful UV rays from the sun and other environmental stressors. Sunflower oil has wonderful emollient properties that help the skin retain its moisture.

G. Chamomile ~ As a natural treatment for eczema, it is thought to help because of it's many properties. Analgesic, it causes pain relief to the site it is applied to. Anti-inflammatory, As a natural anti inflammatory it helps to relieve the symptoms of eczema. Redness, swelling and soreness. Antiseptic, can help to soothe your skin and help to reduce itchiness. Preventing further damage to your skin. Anti-bacterial, can reduce the number of the bacteria in the applied area including but not limited to Staphylococcus aureus. Limiting the chance of an infection. Sedative, helps you to sleep better, if your eczema tends to keep you awake at night. Normally because of itching or irritation. With calming and sedative effects, German Chamomile oil is rich, fruity, and sweet. Both Roman and German chamomile oils have similar anti-inflammatory properties. Tested specifically for eczema, topical application with German Chamomile decreased inflammation, and as a maintenance therapy, it was superior to over-the-counter NSAIDs and steroid creams

Lavender ~ Lavender oil can provide a broader spectrum of relief to eczema sufferers. Unlike the common antibiotic and steroid creams that can be addictive for people with eczema, lavender oil addresses the skin from the inside out. The oil’s analgesic, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and circulatory stimulating properties benefit cases of eczema (atopic dermatitis), as well as create a sense of stability for balanced skin. Lavender oil has been valued for hundreds of years as a natural remedy for skin conditions, as it brings circulation to skin cells that suffer from irritants and stress. It is especially rich in aromatic molecules called esters, which are antispasmodic, tonic, and pacifying. Its cicatrizant properties, which assist restoration through formation of scar tissue, help heal all kinds of wounds and burns. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory for the skin and was even used as an antibacterial in hospitals during World War I. Lavender oil gently eases irritation, works to promote a healthy balance of nutrients on the skin, and acts as an effective stress-reducer. This powerful healing property of lavender oil is due to the aromatic compounds that enter into the bloodstream and travel to the limbic system, the part of the brain that is often called “the emotional brain.” Lavender oil’s treatment of stress is especially vital as stress is one of the causes of eczema skin flare-ups. It is also an immune booster and powerful anti-inflammatory for the skin. All these qualities help to speed healing and prevent or reduce scarring of the skin. Lavender works to relieve the associated pain and itch that frequently occurs with skin inflammation.

Soak for 10-20 minutes, any longer and a bath dries the skin out even more.
